Health Services
Preventative Health
The Rivers Equine Vets is committed to keeping your horse healthy. We stock all vaccines, including Hendra, and plan to introduce annual health checks and geriatric assessments in the near future.
Lameness Evaluation
Please call us if you require one of our equine veterinarians to evaluate your horse for lameness or poor performance. We carry the latest technology in digital radiography and ultrasonography to aid us in diagnosing your horse’s condition.
Dental Health
The Rivers Equine Vets provides a comprehensive dental exam of your horse’s mouth. This includes the use of the latest power float technology enabling us to perform dentals rapidly and efficiently.
Reproductive Health
The Rivers Equine Vets is equipped to help you with all of your equine reproductive and neonatal needs. This includes pregnancy checks, caslicks and births.
Emergencies
The Rivers Equine Vets provides a 24-hour on-call equine emergency service. Please call us, and outside of normal office hours, you will be diverted to the veterinarian on call.
Pre-Purchase Examination
The Rivers Equine Vets is available to carry out pre-purchase examinations. It is best to discuss your specific requirements with one of our veterinarians to arrange this, as the time required will vary. Learn more.
Routine Surgery
The Rivers Equine Vets can carry out routine and minor surgery in the field. This includes but is not limited to castrations and stitch-ups.
Referral Hospitals
As a first opinion clinic operating purely in the field, we work closely with our referral hospitals to ensure we offer our clients the very best in equine care. You may be offered a referral if your horse is critically ill and requires hospitalization, surgery (e.g., colic surgery), or requires more advanced diagnostic examination (e.g., bone scan / CT).
Diagnostic Services
Digital Ultrasound
The portable and battery-powered Sonosite ultrasound machine allow for soft tissue imaging in the field (including the imaging of tendons, ligaments, the reproductive tract, and the abdominal and thoracic cavities). Ultrasonography is also useful for joint and bone surfaces as well as foreign body detection.
Digital Radiography
Our Tru-Dr system allows us to acquire X-rays of your horse at your farm or stable. Digital radiography generates an instant image, thus allowing for a speedy diagnosis. Our clients are also able to view the images. These digital radiography images can then be examined on high-definition screens allowing for subtle pathology to be identified. We also have access to same-day specialist opinions in multiple referral hospitals via the internet. All we need is a power source and a covered flat area (preferably concrete).
ECG, Endoscopy, and Opthalmology
The Rivers Equine Vets carries the latest ECG technology (a small, mobile portable app-based device) to assess your horse in the field. Copies of the ECG can be emailed.
Our endoscope assists us in the assessment of the nasal passages and larynx of your horse.
Eyesight in horses is essential, and all eye injuries should be treated as an emergency. Minor ophthalmic procedures are able to be carried out in the field (e.g., sub palpebral treatment system placement, treatment of sarcoids, and enucleation.)
Performance, Track, and Sport
We provide a full range of services to trainers in Tweed Valley. We will travel to you and offer routine blood tests, lameness evaluations, endoscopy, ultrasound, dentistry, and X-rays.
From Byron Bay to the Southern Gold Coast, we also service all performance and sport horses in Tweed Valley. If your horse is top in showjumping, dressage, eventing, polo, polo-X, endurance, camp drafting, and cutting, we will bring our services to you.
