Senior Veterinarian/Owner

Dr. Greg Baldwin

BSc, BVSc, MPhil

About Greg

Greg graduated from the University of Queensland Veterinary School in 2002. He spent four years at Eagle Farm Equine Hospital in Brisbane, gathering knowledge and skills in equine medicine, surgery, and racetrack practice.

He then worked at the world-renowned Rossdales and Partners in Newmarket, England, for three years. Here at the thoroughbred training headquarters of Europe, Greg was involved with many of the world’s best thoroughbred trainers and horses. He was able to work with horses owned by the Queen at the Royal Stud, Sandringham, Norfolk, and was lucky enough to meet Her Majesty.

On his return to Australia in 2009, he was employed by Harness Racing Queensland and Racing Queensland as a Veterinary Steward, attending predominantly harness race meetings and assisting stewards with policy and integrity matters.

Greg established The Rivers Equine Vets (formally known as Baldwin Equine) in October 2012 and has built up a loyal clientele over the last few years. From humble beginnings and with the local equine community’s support, the practice now supports two associate veterinarians. We also have an excellent practise manager and reception team.

When time permits, Greg enjoys working on the family farm and spending time with his wife, Kisa, a companion animal vet, and their two young daughters playing the odd round of golf and catching a wave or two.

Greg is passionate about all aspects of equine practice and strives to provide the best possible care for all clients.

Owner/Manager

Kisa Baldwin

BVSc MANZCVSc EMCC

About Kisa

Kisa graduated from the University of Queensland Veterinary School in 2001 and initially worked in mixed practice in New Zealand before returning to Brisbane and working at the Animal Emergency Centre. Her passion has always been small animal critical care. She worked at Veterinary Specialist Services for many years before travelling with Greg to England, where she continued to work in Emergency and developed her passion for management. On return to Australia, Kisa worked in and managed the Pet Intensive Care Unit at Underwood. Soon after, she took time off to raise her young family and established The Rivers Equine Vets (formally Baldwin Equine Veterinary Services) with Greg in 2012.

Although Kisa does not practice Equine Veterinary Medicine, she is passionate about animal health, continued learning, management, and caring for our team. She currently balances her time between working at Veterinary Specialist Services Carrara and working behind the scenes for us. In addition, she enjoys spending time with her family, walking their three beautiful dogs, and learning to paddleboard.

Veterinarian

Dr. Nicole Wedler

DVM BSc

About Nicole

Nicole graduated from Murdoch University (Perth) in 2018. She then completed an internship in equine racetrack medicine and surgery at Flemington, Victoria.

During her internship, Nicole worked alongside exceptional racetrack vets and veterinary surgeons on some of the best thoroughbred racehorses in Australia and international thoroughbreds for the Melbourne cup. Upon finishing her internship, she then accepted an associate vet role and continued to improve her skills in racehorse and performance horse medicine.

Nicole has since furthered her knowledge beyond racehorses, working with western sport horses, including cutting and camp drafters, dressage, and companion horses.

When not at work, Nicole spends time with her toddler and partner, Phillip, a horse trainer. As a horse lover and lifelong rider, Nicole has retired from track riding and is now starting her journey in cutting. When not around a horse, Nicole will be at the beach or the farmers’ markets.
