The Rivers Equine Vets team is here for you.
We’ve dedicated our lives to Equine Health.
The Rivers Equine Vets prides itself on excellent communication and reliability, focusing on ensuring the best possible outcomes for your horse.
Dr. Greg Baldwin
BSc, BVSc, MPhil
Greg graduated from the University of Queensland Veterinary School in 2002. He spent four years at Eagle Farm Equine Hospital in Brisbane, gathering knowledge and skills in equine medicine, surgery, and racetrack practice.
He then worked at the world-renowned Rossdales and Partners in Newmarket, England, for three years. Here at the thoroughbred training headquarters of Europe, Greg was involved with many of the world’s best thoroughbred trainers and horses. He was able to work with horses owned by the Queen at the Royal Stud, Sandringham, Norfolk, and was lucky enough to meet Her Majesty.
On his return to Australia in 2009, he was employed by Harness Racing Queensland and Racing Queensland as a Veterinary Steward, attending predominantly harness race meetings and assisting stewards with policy and integrity matters.
Greg established The Rivers Equine Vets (formally known as Baldwin Equine) in October 2012 and has built up a loyal clientele over the last few years. From humble beginnings and with the local equine community’s support, the practice now supports two associate veterinarians. We also have an excellent practise manager and reception team.
When time permits, Greg enjoys working on the family farm and spending time with his wife, Kisa, a companion animal vet, and their two young daughters playing the odd round of golf and catching a wave or two.
Greg is passionate about all aspects of equine practice and strives to provide the best possible care for all clients.
Dr. Simone McColgan
Simone grew up on her family property on the outskirts of Sydney, where she developed her passion for horses and began riding at four years old. Throughout her childhood, she spent school holidays on a horse stud in the Hunter Valley and spent weekends competing in various riding disciplines.
Simone has competed in show jumping and eventing played Polo in Australia and Argentina, and has also ridden trackwork for a prominent Sydney racehorse trainer.
During her years at university, Simone was a live-in student at an equine hospital and reproduction facility, where she helped with all aspects of equine medicine, surgery, and reproduction.
Simone graduated from Murdoch University and then completed an Equine Internship at Agnes Banks Equine Clinic in the Hawkesbury Valley.
Simone likes to spend time with her partner exploring the surrounding area, travelling, and riding her young stock horse in her spare time.
Equine veterinarians are becoming a rare breed, so we are fortunate to have Simone on our team.
Dr. Matt Mackee
Matt is a graduate veterinarian from James Cook University. Matt started his career working for Hawkesbury Equine Veterinary Centre, a busy equine clinic in the Hawkesbury region of Sydney. Matt’s hobbies include all things sport, whether watching or participating, particularly rugby and, most recently, squash. On his days off, you may find him at the beach or exploring the beautiful hinterland that the area has to offer. He has also recently taken up scuba diving with his partner, Tatum.
We know Matt will be an asset to our region and horse community.
BVSc MANZCVSc EMCC
Kisa graduated from the University of Queensland Veterinary School in 2001 and initially worked in mixed practice in New Zealand before returning to Brisbane and working at the Animal Emergency Centre. Her passion has always been small animal critical care. She worked at Veterinary Specialist Services for many years before travelling with Greg to England, where she continued to work in Emergency and developed her passion for management. On return to Australia, Kisa worked in and managed the Pet Intensive Care Unit at Underwood. Soon after, she took time off to raise her young family and established The Rivers Equine Vets (formally Baldwin Equine Veterinary Services) with Greg in 2012.
Although Kisa does not practice Equine Veterinary Medicine, she is passionate about animal health, continued learning, management, and caring for our team. She currently balances her time between working at Veterinary Specialist Services Carrara and working behind the scenes for us. In addition, she enjoys spending time with her family, walking their three beautiful dogs, and learning to paddleboard.
Jessica (also known as Jess) grew up on the Sunshine Coast and has had a passion for horses since she was very young. She has a broad range of skills acquired through her IT and Law study at QUT and her early career as a practicing Solicitor.
